The American Red Cross is ALWAYS there in
times of disaster.
Each year we respond to 75 to 100 disasters
right here in northern Colorado. These
include include single-family house fires,
apartment fires, floods, tornados, winter
storms, rescues or searches, and wild land
fires. We are not a government agency, but
we are required by our congressional Charter
to provide this aid and comfort. We receive
no government funds to provide the service.
Without disaster volunteers, we could not do
so.We respond to a disaster on average
every three or four days. Most of these
disasters are single-family house fires that
occur at all hours of the day and night.
In every geographic area of our Chapter,
we have volunteers trained to respond to
those 2:00 a.m. disaster calls—our DAT
(Disaster Action Team) members—providing
victims of disaster with emergency-related
needs like food, clothing, shelter, health
services, and mental health services. You
can become a member of DAT in your local
community by contacting your local branch
manager or Jason
Godinez.
The Centennial Chapter is also proud of
the fact that we have dozens of trained
volunteers who respond to disasters across
the nation—a group of elite volunteers part
of our DSHR (Disaster Services Human
Resources) system. When a disaster becomes
larger than the local chapter can handle,
this system is activated, and volunteers
from across the nation pack their bags,
leave their families, their jobs, their
lives, and head for the area in need,
donating weeks of time to assist those who
have been affected by disaster. The local
Chapter is responsible for training these
expert volunteers. If you are interested,
contact Jason Godinez at the email address
above.
It is only with the dedication of these
volunteers and the donations of the American
people that the American Red Cross can
provide these services to those in need Free
of Charge. We raise all of the funds
necessary to provide disaster relief
locally.
